Additionally, you'll want to decide what type of fabric your backpack is made out of. The main types of fabric are nylon and canvas. Nylon backpacks are cheaper and lighter, but have poorer water resistance and durability than canvas backpacks. If you're mostly going to be using your backpack outside, then a nylon backpack will probably suffice.
